Kamo / Katsuya Kamo
Hair stylist / Makeup artist
Based in Tokyo, New York, and Paris, Katsuya Kamo is a leading Japanese hair stylist and makeup artist in the world of fashion. He pursues originality and the beauty which emerges in the narrow space between order and chaos, exploring the possibilities of hair and makeup designs. He doesn’t hesitate to go through a number of analog processes for the sake of producing exquisite works. These works include highly artistic, bold, and delicate headpieces; beautiful collages made up of different materials like feathers and metal; and simple yet outlandish hair and makeup designs in monochrome.
Since 1996 onwards, Kamo has been in charge of hair and makeup designs for Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons, and Undercover during Paris Fashion Week. Nominated by Karl Lagerfeld, he has directed hair designs for Fendi during Milan Fashion Week and Chanel’s haute couture collections since 2008. His work includes campaign visuals for Fendi, Chanel, and Kenzo.
Kamo has also worked with a wide range of leading fashion and lifestyle magazines, including Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, New York Times Magazine, Dazed & Confused, and Wallpaper.
In 2014, Kamo held his first solo exhibition, ‘Katuya Kamo – 100 Headpieces’, at La Foret Museum in Harajuku. He simultaneously published his portfolio book, ‘Katsuya Kamo “100 Headpieces”’ with Gasbook. He also set up his own agency that year.
